The Ayr Flower Show, now in its 56th year, is a hit with residents at Bupa’s Claremont Care Home, who attend every year and submit their entries into the Miniature Garden category.

Each miniature garden is required to have a theme and this year saw residents going bigger and bolder than ever, with creative designs including Jurassic Park, A Day at the Riverside and The Enchanted Garden, which triumphed and won third place.

Carol Barr, Home Manager at Bupa’s Claremont Care Home, organises the outing every year, and was delighted with this year’s third place win. She said, “The home has entered the Flower Show for many years now. It’s very popular with our residents and, over the years, we’ve had miniature gardens in first, second and third place and it’s just lovely to see how delighted the residents are when they win.

“We’ve always tried to really get behind the design with quirky ideas, and have had everything from a Teddy Bears Picnic theme to Cowboys and Indians and even Willy Wonka’s and the Chocolate Factory.

“We take residents along to see all the displays. It’s a great, fun day out and we always take along a wee picnic and some refreshments to enjoy sitting in the sun, and always encourage family and friends to get involved as well.

“Here at Claremont, we try to enrich the lives of our residents as much as possible and taking part in the Ayr Flower Show is just one example of how we aim to do this.”
