Dr Liam Fox, North Somerset MP and Nick Sanderson, CEO of Audley Retirement, officially broke ground on Friday at Audley Redwood, the luxury retirement village located just minutes from the historic town of Clifton. A ceremony attended by over 50 guests marked the first step in the renovation of the grounds of the former Redwood Hotel and Country Club originally built in 1898. The village will comprise of 126 luxury one, two and three bedroom apartments and cottages for over 60s. The new village is set to create up to 65 new jobs in the local community, ranging from sales staff, through to restaurant staff and gardeners.
Nick Sanderson, CEO, Audley Retirement said: “The event today marks a new beginning, and we are delighted to begin work on this new development. The village has already received overwhelming levels of interest, highlighting the need for innovative and luxury retirement living options in the South West. Situated just a short drive from the city of Bristol, Audley Redwood will offer high quality housing and facilities, coupled with the proximity of town life. We look forward to restoring this charming site to its former glory and opening Audley Redwood to a new generation of owners and the surrounding community.”
Dr Liam Fox, North Somerset MP said: “I am delighted to welcome Nick Sanderson and the Audley team to the local community as we break ground on this new development. It really is time the importance of specialist retirement living housing options was recognised. Not only do retirement villages allow people to stay in their own home, they also have wider societal benefits. Developments like Audley Redwood are exactly the sort of place we need – an aspirational place to enjoy and live whilst being older. The redevelopment of the Redwood Hotel and Country club will start a new chapter for this site, and I wish the team every success over the coming months.”
Situated on the former site of the Redwood Hotel and Country Club, Audley Redwood sits in 15 acres of landscaped parkland. The village will give owners the chance to live just a short drive from the centre of Bristol, while offering aspirational and secure living in retirement.
The centrepiece of the village, Redwood Hall, will be home to the Audley Club, offering luxury facilities including a library, restaurant, swimming pool, sauna, steam room and spa, all of which will be accessible to both owners and the neighbouring communities.
Audley enables owners to live an independent and healthy lifestyle in their own homes, with access to the Audley Club facilities and flexible care. Owners buy their cottage or apartment from Audley and own it on a 125 year lease.
Audley Retirement instructed Balfour Beatty to head up the construction of the first phase of the village following successful projects at a number of other Audley villages.
Audley Redwood will welcome its first owners in winter 2017 following the completion of the first phase of development.
