Friday 29th July was a big day for the Halcon Centre in Taunton as they held their annual summer BBQ. The event was well attended by clients and their families, visitors, friends and staff, who were all invited to tuck into the freshly cooked BBQ food and homemade fruit punch. Despite a few spots of rain at the beginning, the weather was glorious with the sun beaming down on the event.
Vivienne Stock-Williams, Mayor of Taunton Deane, joined the celebrations, bringing along Reminiscence Learning mascot, Archie the scarecrow. The mayor spoke with Manager, Kevin Mellor, who explained the variety of services offered by the physical disabilities respite centre and gave her a tour of the facilities. A raffle was held at the event for the Centre’s activities fund, which raised just over £370 towards trips out and entertainment for the clients.
Speaking at the event, Kevin Mellor made a short speech:
“I would like to thank everyone for joining us today for our annual summer BBQ. This year, I would particularly like to thank the clients for getting so involved with supporting this, especially Ben who has been helping out with the gardening and growing vegetables for us all to enjoy. Today also wouldn’t be possible without my staff team who have worked hard to prepare for this event, including those who are cooking up some delicious food while I talk.”
