A Felixstowe nursing care home has been rated as ‘good’ for the quality of service it provides to older people. Mill Lane Nursing Home on Garrison Lane, which is part of the Healthcare Homes Group, has recently been inspected by the Care Quality Commission and has received this positive grading
The CQC is the independent regulator of health and adult social care in England. It makes sure health and social care services provide people with safe, effective, compassionate and high-quality care. Inspectors visited Mill Lane in July in an unannounced visit and spent time speaking with staff, residents, the relatives of residents and the registered manager. They looked to determine whether the service delivered at the home was safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led. They provided detailed ratings on all these areas which contributed to the overall grade.
The home achieved ‘good’ ratings for all areas inspected and the report particularly highlighted the range of improvements that had been made over the past year. A number of changes have been undertaken to the facilities and several processes at the home to ensure the quality of service is as high as possible. The report recognised home manager Emma Beckett’s understanding of her “role and responsibilities in providing a good quality service and how to drive continuous improvement.”
The report highlighted how staffing arrangements have been improved to effectively support and care for residents, with a consistent focus on improvement. It states that staff are able to “…..receive feedback on their practice and used this to identify ways to improve the service provided to people.”
Inspectors also commented that “Staff respected people’s privacy and dignity at all times and interacted with people in a caring, respectful and professional manner”. This is reflected in the numerous reviews posted by friends and relatives of residents on the national carehome.co.uk website. One relative commented “..the care she received was excellent, which was a great comfort for us, knowing that she was being looked after in a kind and respectful way.”
Emma will now look to build on this positive feedback and to further embed the good work underway as part of ongoing plans for the home. Emma said: “I am so pleased that the hard work and professionalism delivered by the team at Mill Lane has been recognised. A lot of team work goes into delivering the services we provide and to make sure that the lives of our residents are as comfortable and as enjoyable as possible. I would like to personally thank all of the staff here for the work they carry out every day.
“Unannounced, objective inspections such as these provide such a valuable insight into our service and the level of care we are delivering, so I am extremely proud we have been rated so positively. I will do all I can with the team to ensure that this work continues and that our residents continue to enjoy life here at Mill Lane.”
