Hicare homes host a Right Royal Care Home Open Day!

Care Home Open Day (1)For Care Home Open Day 2016, Hicare Homes, Leicester hosted a Royal themed days to celebrate and honour the Queen turning 90.

 

Care Home Open day is a national scheme which encourages communities across the UK to visit their local care homes; connecting residents with the community, challenging stereotypes and dispelling some of the myths of residential care.

 

Both Meadow’s Court and Spencefield Grange held street parties and had a variety of themed activities including:

  • Queen impressionists.
  • A raffle with a chance to win an aeroplane lesson.
  • A visit from their local fire fighters. Residents were invited to hear about how the fire engines work and take part in a display with the tools and equipment.
  • Videos from the Queen’s coronation/historical events were being shown.
  • A variety of stalls include henna, cake and Indian savoury food stalls.
  • Tours of the homes for visitors.

One of the longstanding residents, Adam, volunteered to officially open and close the day with speeches; commenting on what care home open day meant to him as a resident at the home.

Operations Manager, Manisha Zala said “I am very impressed with our staff and residents. We managed to raise a fantastic £175 for resident’s comfort funds. The open days were a great success, residents and staff all had a wonderful time. A huge thanks to all the members of the community that joined us, you helped make the day very special.”
