Heeley Bank care home in Sheffield  are busy preparing for the grand opening of their sensory garden on the 17th of June.

The garden, previously a simple slab- patio, is the brainchild of activities co-ordinators Tina Johnson and Penny Count who have worked tirelessly to fundraise for it along with resident families and volunteers.

Work started during the spring and more recently, as it nears completion two new occupiers have been welcomed; chickens, Sage and Onion!

Residents of the home, which provides residential , nursing and dementia care find them fascinating to watch.  Those same residents  been getting involved with the potting and planting, and an enthusiastic gardening club as come into being.

The Manager of Heeley Bank  said “ It’s wonderful to see some many people getting involved and volunteering their time, the family of one of the residents has given us a beautiful hand-crafted bird table. Others have generously donated plants and cuttings and more importantly, their time.

” I’m incredibly proud of what our team have achieved “

Everyone is welcome to the open day which is planned to coincide with National Care Home Open Day.

Heeley Bank have a planned visit from local school children who have been invited to officially open the garden by cutting a ribbon.

There will also be ‘Therapy ponies’ for visitors and residents to enjoy.

There will be refreshments and an opportunity to sample life at Heeley Bank and enjoy the garden .
