Residents enjoy Spanish evening at Dewsbury care home

IdealResidents at Ashworth Grange care home in Dewsbury enjoyed a taste of Spain as the home created a pop-up restaurant called El Toro.  The café area was decorated with bunting and residents were greeted with a glass of Sangria on arrival.

Ashworth Grange, which is operated by Ideal Carehomes, understands the importance of eating well and the pop-up restaurant is another step to ensure that the dining experience at the home is first class.  For many residents, they will have celebrated special occasions by dining out throughout their life time but now their needs have reached a point where getting out of the home is difficult.   The pop-up restaurant is therefore their opportunity to once again have a full restaurant experience and gives them a sense of occasion.  Residents are required to book a table at the pop-up restaurant and they can then enjoy an a la carte menu and receive full table service.

Ashworth Grange residents were keen for the restaurant to have a Spanish theme, and the menu consisted of garlic mushrooms, croquets, Spanish omelette, herb potatoes and salad with an almond and orange cake to finish.  There was a Spanish guitarist on hand to enhance the atmosphere and residents commented that they felt like they were on holiday!  Joyce Booty, who has lived at Ashworth Grange for two years said “What a fabulous evening, this has been amazing.  I have had good company with good food and the service was lovely. How nice to have some different music and this in our home, thank you!”

Staff dressed up as waiters to complete the restaurant experience and families were invited to dine with their relatives.  At the end of the meal, the residents gave a round of applause to the guitarist and then burst into their own rendition of Abba’s ‘Thank you for the Music’!

Ashworth Grange provides residential and dementia care for 64 local older people.  Through a varied programme of activities, highly nutritious food and inspirational spaces, the home provides residents with person-centred care, creating aspirational lifestyle choices.  After the success of El Toro, everyone is looking forward to another pop-up restaurant once the residents have decided which theme to go for next!
