In April 2016 the Care Quality Commission (CQC) completed an unannounced inspection of the home, over a two day period, awarding the home an overall rating of Good.
The CQC report states:
“On both days of our inspection there was a homely atmosphere. Staff interacted with people in a friendly and respectful way. People were encouraged and supported to maintain their independence and to pursue their interests and hobbies. They made choices about their day to day lives which were respected by staff. People who lived in the home and their visitors described the caring approach of staff in exceptional terms.”
Comments from residents during the inspection included,
- “Staff are exceptionally good, wonderful.”
- “I have really thrived since I came here.”
- “The care is as good as it can be.”
Visitors told inspectors that staff understood people’s care needs, providing the right level of care and support. A visitor attending the home on the day of the inspection said,
- “it is just like a big family here.”
- “The staff go the extra mile”
- “The wellbeing of my mum is testimony to the excellent care provided by all staff.”
Glastonbury Care Home is a large purpose built home which provides accommodation, personal and nursing care for up to 64 older people. The home has two floors both staffed by nurses to support people who need nursing care. One of the areas in the home specialises in caring for people living with dementia. Staff at the home have also worked hard to build strong links with the local community, keeping residents involved with the area. Students from local colleges and schools visit frequently and spend valuable time with the residents and staff.
