Peel Gardens care home in Lancashire welcomed the community in through their doors on the 17th June to celebrate National Care Home Open Day.
The day, which aims to highlight the fantastic care that happens across the UK, saw residents, relatives, friends and staff come together to celebrate with a fun filled day of activities.
Entertainment on the day included a special Oomph! session, and an animal therapy session with lap dogs Marlowe and Scrappy. Animal therapy aids reminiscence and communications for people living with dementia, helping to induce positive memories. Tombola and bric and brac stalls were also set up for guests searching for a bargain!
A highlight of the day involved residents, visitors and staff alike enthusiastically taking part in a World Record attempt. Embrace Group, which runs Peel Gardens, teamed up with Oomph! – a social enterprise dedicated to enhancing the health and wellbeing of older adults – to challenge members of the Embrace family from across the country to participate in a national synchronised exercise class.
With 1,035 people having participated in the National Care Home Open Day Oomph! World Record challenge, there were celebrations all round as the previous record of 481 participants was well and truly bested.
Angela Cheyte, Home Manager at Peel Gardens, commented:
“We had a great time celebrating National Care Home Open Day. It was a great opportunity to come together and enjoy some food and activities. Ensuring residents continue to lead a full and fulfilling life in the community is very important to us at Peel Gardens.”
