Residents at Holcroft Grange, the CLS-run care home in Culcheth, Warrington, have been sinking their teeth into a variety of treats following the opening of their very own Victorian-style sweet shop.
Situated on the premises, the sweet shop offers a vast array of candies that would appeal to anyone with a sweet tooth, including traditional favourites like Pontefract cakes, rhubarb and custard, fudge and lollipops. The shop also sells crisps and toiletries, and is open to residents every Tuesday afternoon.
All proceeds from the shop go towards a good cause; the Holcroft Grange activities fund, which is used to provide experiences and days out for the home’s residents.
The sweet shop, set up and decorated by Holcroft Grange Activity Coordinator Nicola Newens, was made possible by the generous donations of staff and residents’ family members, who donated items ranging from glass jars and gingham fabric to a Victorian-style set of scales and till.
Commenting on the opening of the shop, Nicola said: “The residents love to come into the shop for a look around, and it’s brilliant to see the smiles on their faces when they find some of their old favourites. It’s been fantastic to see everyone getting involved in supporting a good cause, and I’d like to say a big thank you to everyone that donated to the project; without you, the sweet shop wouldn’t have been possible.”
Operated by CLS Care Services, a charitable organisation, Holcroft Grange is a purpose-built home situated in the centre of Culcheth village in Warrington.
