Guests were given the opportunity to meet members of the Buxton Lodge team and treated to a scrumptious buffet lunch, whilst having a look around the community. Entertainment on the day was provided by a magician, who entertained residents and guests with mysterious magical tricks.
A local singer also gave a lively performance, singing classic songs from the 50s, which are always a big hit with residents! The day was rounded off with beautiful pieces by two local musicians, who skilfully played the flute, piccolo and piano.
As an effective alternative intervention for people living with dementia, music therapy aids reminiscence for dementia sufferers. Listening to much loved tunes helps to bring back happy memories, and music therapy is also believed to improve moods and have a calming effect by providing each individual with an accessible outlet for their creativity.
Buxton Lodge General Manager, Genevieve Rodrigues, commented:
“The open day was a big hit with residents and guests, and I am very proud to be part of such fantastic home with such lovely team members.
“Ensuring residents continue to lead a full and fulfilling life in the community is very important to us at Buxton Lodge and we look forward to hosting more open days in the future.”
