Sunrise Senior Living of Southbourne Receives ‘Outstanding’ Rating by the CQC


Sunrise logo-care industry newsSunrise Senior Living of Southbourne has been rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and social care services in England. Just 1% of care homes have received this rating so far.

The rating has been announced following an inspection in October 2015, and the report detailed how Sunrise of Southbourne “…benchmarks good practice, shares learning, and makes changes for continual improvement”.

The “caring” nature of the community received particular praise. In particular, the report stated that “person-centred care was provided with kindness and compassion by highly motivated staff who treated people with respect and dignity”. Inspectors said that staff had good relationships with residents and their relatives and that residents valued their relations with staff –  as they “regularly went the extra mile” for them, “giving support over and above what was required”.

The community’s strong leadership was also highlighted. The inspectors acknowledged that Registered Manager Lynne Petty showed passion and commitment to raising awareness of dementia within the local community. Lynne is a member of the local dementia alliance, and has successfully delivered free training to local shopkeepers and businesses including solicitors and funeral directors as part of the ‘Dementia-friendly Southbourne’ initiative run by the Alzheimer’s Society.

Sunrise of Southbourne, which is part of Sunrise Senior Living UK, provides accommodation for 102 residents, including those living with dementia.
