The Manchester Road care home was part of a city-wide effort to break the previous record of 667 servings across multiple sites.

Volunteers from Sheffield Wednesday National Citizenship Service (NCS) served up 63 portions of tea and scones to residents, family, staff and visitors.

The record attempt was run as part of global Nutrition and Hydration Week, 14th to 20th March.

Simon Shires, manager of The Laurels and The Limes Care Home, said: “When we heard about the record attempt, we had to sign the home up. Our residents love their cream tea so we thought it was a great opportunity.

“Plus we used the occasion to highlight the importance of nutritious food and ample fluids in health and social care settings as part of Nutrition and Hydration Week.”

The record attempt was organised by Nutrition and Hydration Week, which also aimed to set the international record for cream teas served in five or more countries. The results are not yet known.
