Steve Winyard, Head of Campaigns at RNIB, said:
“We are pleased that today’s announcement by the Department for Work and Pensions confirms that they will not be taking forward any of the five changes laid out in the recent PIP consultation. All of these five options would have impacted significantly on blind and partially sighted people.
“We believe the message was clear from the sight loss sector and the 1,000 blind and partially sighted people who contacted their MP to voice their concerns over the consultation – people with sight loss have very real additional costs that PIP can help to meet.
“However, these changes will still affect people with range of disabilities and we emphasise once again that the help provided by DLA and PIP makes a real difference to people’s independence and quality of life.”
Anybody who is blind or partially sighted who is applying for PIP – whether under the current or the changed 2017 rules – is urged to get advice from our Helpline: 0303 123 9999.
