Pony visit to Cheshire care home spreads cheer


Pony visit 3South Haven Lodge Care Home in Woolston, hosted a special guest when a miniature horse rode in to meet with residents.


The horse named Mr Kelloggs, let residents pet and groom him as he was taken on a tour of the home, visiting a number of residents in their rooms.


The horse is part of Pony Pals, a travelling therapeutic initiative that take miniature horses and donkeys into care homes. Animal therapy aids reminiscence and communications for people living with dementia, helping to induce positive memories.  


BPony visit 2ecky O’Neill at Activities Coordinator at South Haven Lodge said:


“The horse was a big hit with all the residents, who very much enjoyed getting to spend time with him.

South Haven Lodge is part of New Century Care, and specialises in providing nursing and residential care for people with dementia and mental disorders.
