Sandfields care home in Cheltenham is bringing the fine dining experience to its residents, with the appointment of chef David Morgan, who has cooked for the likes of Gordon Ramsay and Rick Stein.
David has worked in kitchens for nearly 20 years, assuming the role of head chef for the last decade. His impressive career has seen him work for Michelin-starred chef Bertrand Grebaut and cook for the Guild of Chefs dinner, where top cooks enjoyed David’s cuisine. But crucially for Sandfields, David not only has fine dining experience, he’s worked in care homes too. Therefore he understands the specific needs of residents.
He says: “I understand the needs of the generation I am cooking for at Sandfields. They need food they can recognise, a menu that varies with the seasons, as well as the best of fresh produce. In fact, my favourite part of the day is the morning, as my team and I bake bread, prepare lunch, and wait to see the delight on the residents faces when they’re enjoying their meal.”
David has big plans for food at Sandfields this Christmas as he’s personally cooking festive meals for residents and their families, with everything made from scratch including homemade chocolates, handmade mince pies and more.
In the New Year, David will also be introducing fine dining events and cooking demonstrations for residents. But crucially, David’s main aim is to keep residents happy by serving food they enjoy.
Home manager Deanna Lane comments: “Food is such an important part of our residents’ daily lives, so we are delighted to have secured such a high calibre chef in David. He has the ability to combine creativity and a passion for fine cuisine, with an understanding of the very unique nutritional needs of residents in care. Both the residents at Sandfields care home and their relatives are looking forward to seeing what David cooks up for Christmas.”
