CHRISTMAS lights at a Dorset care home are bringing the festive spirit to thousands of motorists on a busy commuter route.
Ferndown Mayor Cllr Julie Robinson was invited to switch on the Christmas tree lights at Colten Care’s Fernhill home in Longham.
A permanent tree has been planted outside the dementia care home in Ringwood Road and it’s hoped to make the Christmas lights display an annual feature.
Gina Smith, Home Manager, said: “Thousands of cars use Ringwood Road every day. Many crawl along because of the sheer volume of traffic.
“Apart from bringing the Christmas celebrations home to our residents, staff and relatives, we hope it will also provide some festive cheer to passing motorists.
“This is the first year we’ve had a tree to light up and, judging by the comments we’ve received, it is proving to be very popular.”
After the switch-on, Poole & Parkstone Singers sang a selection of carols and festive tunes. Staff then served mulled wine and mince pies.
“It was a lovely evening and our thanks to everyone who made it such a great success,” said Gina.
