The animal-loving folks at Field View care home, Blackhall Colliery, have been showing off their dog training pedigree as the home hosted their very own dog show.
Field View, which provides residential and dementia care for the elderly, planned the Crufts-style event to correspond with National Dog Day 2015 which aims to raise awareness of the number of dogs that need to be rescued and acknowledge the difference that family and working dogs make to our lives.
Residents’ family members and staff brought in their pets who took part in a ‘pooch parade’ around the home’s courtyard garden before completing an obstacle course and agility test. Residents and family members acted as both spectators and judges with treats given to all participating pooches and top prize of a dog bowl and bone going to the winner, Dilly.
Michelle Howarth, Care Manager at Field View, Said: “Our dog show was a big hit with residents and families. We have a lot of animal lovers here so holding a dog show seemed like the perfect way of bringing everyone together and celebrating our love for pets.
The day couldn’t have happened without the support of families and staff that participated and came in to spectate. We feel very lucky to have so many who are happy to take part in the events that we hold in the home.”
