Residents and staff at Alexandra House were treated to a visit from distinguished guests at its fun-filled open day.

The Mayor of Gateshead, Councillor Alex Geddes, and the Mayoress, Mrs Freda Geddes, visited the home, which is part of Akari Care, along with other members of the community for the celebration.

There were plenty of activities for residents, staff and visitors to enjoy, including an animal party, a singer, karaoke, arts and crafts, as well as refreshments for those in attendance.

A raffle on the day raised £104, which will go towards the residents’ comfort fund, allowing for extra treats and contributions for trips outs.

Located on Havelock Terrace, Alexandra House provides residential care for up to 40 elderly residents.

Marie Bainbridge, Manager at Alexandra House, said: “The open day provided the perfect opportunity to welcome the community to Alexandra House and it was enjoyed by all our residents, especially with the visit of local dignatories.

“I would like to thank everyone who came along and contributed to raising money for the home, including the Mayor and Mayoress, who were very welcoming towards our residents and all in attendance.”
