Sydmar Lodge care home in Edgware has launched exercise classes for their residents in a bid to promote health, wellbeing and happiness through a programme of inclusive physical activity.
The classes at Sydmar Lodge support residents to participate in physical exercise that is accessible, fun, and has wide-ranging health benefits. Members of staff work with residents to co-design the classes, which promote mobility, and focus on creating a positive and exciting environment.
Residents approached the exercise session at Sydmar Lodge with gusto, actively getting into the moves whilst accompanied by their favourite tunes.
Sydmar Lodge member of staff, Alison Sitton, attended a two-day training session where she learnt about how to design exciting exercises, and she now leads two classes a week for residents.
Sydmar Lodge Activities Co-ordinator, Robert Speker, commented:
“The Oomph! exercise classes have a very positive effect on the staff and residents at Sydmar Lodge, with everyone having a great time. We look forward to running more sessions in the future.”
Sydmar Lodge is part of Embrace, and specialises in providing nursing and residential care for older people.
