Dimensions has further strengthened its safeguarding processes by appointing an independent chair to its safeguarding panel – becoming one of very few organisations to open up to independent scrutiny in this way.
Richard Crompton is a former Chief Constable and is currently Chairman of the Somerset Safeguarding Adults Board and Plymouth Hospitals Trust. He will take over the role from Dimensions CEO Steve Scown.
The panel reviews safeguarding incidents in order to embed learning from each event across the organisation. The aim is to strike a balance between assisting people to lead independent and self-determined lives whilst managing the risks that they are exposed to as a result of their learning disability or autism.
Crompton says, “I am very excited to be the first Independent Safeguarding Chair of Dimensions. Safeguarding the people that Dimensions supports is key to enabling independence and self-determination, and I am absolutely committed to using my past and current experience to ensure that this happens.”
