Care home couple celebrate 55 years of marriage

Embrace Group-care industry newsLiverpool residents Brian and Mavis Smailes celebrated 55 years of marriage on Thursday 25th June, surrounded by family and friends.

 

The happy couple met in 1953, after being set up by friends on a blind date – Brian was 20 and Mavis 17. After falling in love, they married in 1960 at St Lawrence’s Church in Spellow Lane, Walton.

 

The couple went on the have 2 children and now have 6 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

 

The party for Mavis and Brian was held at Walton Manor Care Home, Liverpool, where Mavis now lives. To mark the occasion, friends, family and fellow residents raised a toast to their long and happy marriage.

 

Brian commented:

 

It was a wonderful day and a lovely occasion to celebrate.”

 

Marina Moore, Activities Co-ordinator at Walton Manor, commented:

 

“It was lovely to join in with Mavis and Brian’s celebrations. Their love for each other is a true inspiration to us all.”
