Specialist construction and development partner for care and retirement living, Castleoak, has announced a double contract win with new customer, The Abbeyfield Society. Worth a combined £9.6 million, the contracts are for a residential and specialist dementia care home in Winnersh near Reading and an assisted living scheme in Tunbridge Wells.
Castleoak’s specialist development team identified and secured the site in Winnersh and working in partnership with national operator, The Abbeyfield Society, developed a unique and inspiring design for the specialist 60-bed dementia care home. Castleoak later achieved planning permission and construction began in March.
Designed to meet The Abbeyfield Society’s innovative dementia design strategy, the care home comprises intimate circular bedroom wings which minimise corridors and lead to communal spaces to aid way finding and spatial recognition. Castleoak used its specialist experience of timber frame design to achieve the complex building form.
In Tunbridge Wells, Castleoak has also started construction of a traditionally built scheme. Spread over three storeys and a semi basement, the scheme will offer 19 apartments and communal facilities.
Richard Virr, Development Director at The Abbeyfield Society, says: “Castleoak will play an important role in creating our new state-of-the-art dementia care development in Winnersh and in providing improved facilities for older people in Tunbridge Wells. The Abbeyfield Society has ambitious plans for the future and in our work so far with Castleoak we see the foundations of a productive working relationship that could help us to build the better future that older people deserve.”
Castleoak CEO, Craig Currie, adds: “We’re delighted to secure these care home and assisted living contracts with The Abbeyfield Society. Castleoak is passionate about innovation and service development in residential care for older people. Our teams share common goals.”
