You may remember Violet Davis-Evans, who appeared in a previous featured news item when she celebrated her 107th Birthday at Ashwood Nursing Home. She was made to feel like a VIP with a special gift from Elizabeth Arden and a visit from her local MP. Violet worked for Elizabeth Arden in the 1930’s and in recognition of Violets birthday; Elizabeth Arden sent her a luxury gift box filled with creams, perfumes and their best wishes.
Violet still uses all Elizabeth Arden creams and was overwhelmed with her gift from them. After reading about Violet’s story in the local paper, making a special trip to meet her were Rt Hon John Hayes Conservative MP for South Holland and The Deepings and Harry Drury, Conservative Party District Council Candidate for Spalding St. Mary’s.
Spending time with Violet, both John Hayes and Harry Drury were inspired by how well Violet is doing
They then took time to meet the staff and speak to other residents at the home. Many residents are still very interested in politics and enjoyed engaging in conversation about the affairs of the country.
“It was a pleasure to be invited to visit Ashwood Residential Home and an honour to meet Violet Davies-Evans who recently celebrated her 107th Birthday. Having spoken to some of the residents at the home, it was made very apparent that there was a huge sense of community and that residents were pleased to live in such a friendly and well maintained place, with likeminded people of their generation. One lady told me that if she was not there, she would be in a bungalow on her own which reinforced to me the importance of good quality residential homes such as Ashwood”. – Harry Drury, Conservative Party District Council Candidate for Spalding St. Mary’s.
