85-year-old Witham great-grandmother Doreen Green is celebrating Easter as the winner of an Easter Bonnet competition.
Doreen’s design was declared the bonniest bonnet in a competition at Hanover Housing Association’s Helen Court Extra Care housing scheme.
The competition was brought together by Helen Court Estate Manager Carol Leighton, who is known for going the extra mile to set up captivating events that residents enjoy.
Seventeen residents took part in the show which involved a noon parade around the scheme before votes for the winning bonnet took place over a spot of lunch.
‘Bringing people together through social events is a very rewarding part of my job. At Helen Court we have a fantastic bunch of residents who regularly come together to take part in social activities.’
Easter Bonnet award winner Doreen took just 45 minutes to create a pink straw hat with lilac trimmings and flowers. Her victory came on her 65th wedding anniversary.
She says: ‘I am delighted to have won the competition and particularly enjoyed taking part in this unique show. I would like to thank Carol and support assistant Sue for once again setting up such a wonderful event.’
Doreen is planning a double celebration, spending Easter Sunday with her grandson on his 30th birthday.
