Ilva Todd, who has one daughter, one granddaughter and two great granddaughters, enjoyed a party at the home with her family, members of staff and fellow residents, which included entertainment and refreshments.
Ilva, of Lambton, moved to Durham in 1938 after marrying Joe, who sadly died aged just 58.
She used to work in a grocery shop in Blythe and also in Durham and she still enjoys watching sport, particularly golf and snooker.
Donwell House, which is situated on Wellgarth Road, provides care for 62 residents, including personal, social and general nursing care for elderly residents and care for individuals with Alzheimer’s, Dementia and physical illnesses.
There is also a Day Centre on site that provides care for up to 45 clients, including the elderly, physically infirm and individuals requiring dementia care.
Ilva Todd said: “It was lovely to celebrate my birthday at the home with my family and friends. I don’t really have a secret to reaching 101, I’ve just had a good life!”
Tracey Garland, Manager of Donwell House, said: “It was fantastic to see Ilva having such a good time surrounded by her loved ones on her special day and the other residents at Donwell House enjoyed a toast to Ilva’s birthday.
