The ceremony took place on Wednesday 28th January on site at Abbotwsood Court. Sean Gavin, CEO of Harftord Care and Malcolm Mintram, Director of Highwood Group were joined for the ceremony by the Chairman of Romsey Extra Parish Council, Councillor Chris Wesson and Romsey Town Mayor, Councillor Peter Hurst. The Mayor and the Chairman marked the occasion by ‘doing the honours’ and putting the final roof tile in place.
Construction of this brand new state-of-the-art care home commenced last summer. The project is to build a 63 bed home which will offer residential and dementia care for older people in the local area. The project represents investment in the region of £8m. Work is progressing well and the project team are still on track to open the doors to the first residents of Abbotswood Court this summer.
The project also brings considerable employment opportunities to Romsey. In addition to the high levels of economic activity generated locally during the construction phase (Hartford Care’s construction partner, Highwood Group, employs local contractors and utilises local suppliers and supply chains wherever possible), once complete the home will create in the region of 80 brand new, long-term jobs. As part of this Hartford Care will also work with local colleges to offer Care Apprenticeships for young people within the home.

Cllr Wesson commented “I was delighted to be able to assist the project team in marking this key milestone in the construction of Abbotswood Court. The facility is certainly impressive and promises to provide a wonderful, homely environment for older people. The building has been designed to provide a range of opportunities for its residents, who will be able to enjoy an excellent quality of life. The home is light and spacious – in short, it will offer modern living for older people. I am delighted to welcome Abbotswood Court into the Romsey community and I look forward to seeing the finished project in the summer.”
