The Founder and Chairman of Helen McArdle Care has been honoured on the 2015 New Year Honours List as a CBE.
Helen McArdle has been recognised by the Queen for her services to the Care Home Business and the community in the North East.
Helen, who founded the company in 1989, along with her husband and four children is absolutely delighted to be named a CBE: “This is totally unexpected; the North East is a great place to have a business and I am humbled and proud to receive this honour alongside so many inspirational people.
I would like to thank my family, friends and wonderful staff team who have helped me to achieve this.”
Helen has always been a pioneer for care in the North East and often in the UK; she was the first to provide en suites and she has always built ahead of regulation with larger bedrooms, en suites, wider corridors and 11 person lifts. She also broke new ground with the concept of ‘group living’. Helen McArdle Care is known for the quality of accommodation that is provided as well as the standard of care delivered. Helen was also one of the founder members of Care North East, an umbrella organisation representing providers’ interest throughout the North East.
Due to Helen’s success in business she has been able to give back to the communities in which her homes are built and has supported the Tyne and Wear Community Foundation, the Percy Hedley Foundation, Maggie’s North East and the Sunshine Fund, as well as some smaller causes in the local community.
Helen McArdle Care continues to be a family run business and currently has 17 care homes in the North East as well as providing services in home care and day care. The company also designs, builds and sells retirement accommodation.
