NorthStar, the care home development company, have been given the go ahead to re-develop the Priory care home in Worthing into a brand new, 21st Century care facility.  Their proposed re-development of a site in Worthing was granted planning consent at a meeting of the Adur and Worthing Planning Committee on 10th December 2014.

Currently the Priory Nursing Home, which has occupied the site since 1951, offers 42 Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered bed spaces.   Under the new development the existing building will be demolished and a new, 64 bed care home put in its place.

The new development will provide the town with upgraded care facilities that have been bespoke-designed to provide care in a modern setting with the latest in care technology and facilities.

Critical to the ethos of the development is the sub-division of the home into small, familial, domestic scale units, giving a feel of being part of a household rather than a large institution.

In addition the approach to care will be to provide both organized and informal outdoor activities that maximise access to the outside spaces within safe gardens. The inside of the home will be light, and the gardens visible from as many rooms as possible. An emphasis will be on the ‘edge spaces’, where the inside meets the outside.

Danny Sharpe, Director of NorthStar says: “During a public consultation day to showcase our proposals we received 100% positive responses to the proposed re-development with no objections.  The site’s neighbours were incredibly encouraging, they clearly understood the need to redevelop the existing out of date and financially unviable former care home.”

Gary Peck, planning services manager for Adur and Worthing Council said: “It is considered that the proposal offers an opportunity to significantly upgrade the quality of care home provision in the town on a site which offers a suitable environment for a high standard care home. The applicant has worked positively with officers and it is felt that the proposal as submitted offers the optimum solution for the site.”

NorthStar is an award winning property development and project management company specialising in 5 star CQC compliant care home developments throughout the UK.
