One of the UK’s leading care home operators has announced plans for further expansion following the completion of an additional £15 million funding package with Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank.

Graham Care Limited (‘Graham Care’), which already operates seven care homes in Kent, Surrey and Sussex, will open a new facility at Hawkhurst, Turnbridge Wells and complete a major redevelopment of its existing care home at Rodwell Farm in Surrey.

The new Hawkhurst home has been designed in line with Graham Care’s unique concept of care suites offering high-quality, modern facilities which deliver the highest level of nursing care.

The new funding will also support the redevelopment of the company’s Rodwell Farm care home, replacing the existing facility which Graham Care has owned since 1996. The new design will incorporate contemporary standards, with modern facilities to care for elderly people requiring specialist nursing and dementia care.

Construction work on both developments is scheduled for completion by the beginning of 2016, and will create around 150 new jobs across the two facilities. On opening, overall capacity at Graham Care’s homes will increase from 520 to around 650 places.

Founded in 1996 by Ernie and Dr Karen Graham, the company already employs around 600 people and its annual turnover is approaching £25 million.

Graham Care Managing Director Ernie Graham said: “We are committed to delivering highly personalised nursing care and support across all of our facilities. The launch of our new home at Hawkhurst and the redevelopment of our original facility at Rodwell Farm will ensure that we provide the best possible experiences for our residents and further strengthen our position in the sector.

“Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank funded our original development at Rodwell back in 1996, and we greatly appreciate the support which they have provided since that time. We are continuing to target growth for the business and we have a strong development pipeline in place for the years ahead”.

Johnny Rowe, Director of Corporate and Acquisition Finance at Clydesdale and Yorkshire Bank’s London Business and Private Banking Centre, said: “The Bank has a long-running relationship with Ernie, Karen and the rest of the management team at Graham Care, and we have worked closely with them as they have grown the business from its early days to the leading position it now occupies in the care sector.

“We look forward to supporting them as they roll out their strategy for the continued expansion of the company”.
