Bondcare-Care Industry News (200 x 116)A Newcastle care home is celebrating for two reasons after appointing an experienced new manager and receiving a glowing report from the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Allan Court care home, which is part of Bondcare Shaftesbury Limited and based on Benwell Lane, has appointed Simeon Mulligan, who has more than 14 years’ management experience in the care sector, as the new home manager.

The home also recently received a positive report from the CQC following an inspection, in which it was found to be fully compliant in all of the required standards, which included:

  • Treating people with respect and involving them in their care
  • Providing care, treatment and support that meets peoples’ needs
  • Caring for people safely and protecting them from harm
  • Staffing
  • Quality and suitability of management

The inspector noted that ‘people living at the home, and their relatives, said they were happy with their care and support’ and ‘we saw that staff were attentive to peoples’ needs and encouraged them to be as independent as possible and do things at their own pace.’

Residents also commented on the quality of care they receive, saying: ‘I’ve no concerns, everyone treats me very well’ and another resident said ‘staff are very nice and will sit and talk to us.’ Residents’ relatives also commented on the home, with one relative saying ‘the staff are brilliant with my husband and when I come in they tell me how he has been.’

Simeon Mulligan, Home Manager, said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as home manager at Allan Court. It is a role that will be challenging, but it is one that I am relishing as I aim to build on the already excellent care provided.

“The positive findings in the report are extremely pleasing, as we are dedicated to providing our residents with the best possible care in a safe and comfortable environment and the praise and findings are testament to the hard work and commitment of the staff here.

“The aim of Allan Court is to provide a service that is noticeably different from other Care Homes in the Newcastle Area. We provide an active and full lifestyle for the residents of Allan Court and our motto is ‘wherever there is another human being, there is an opportunity for kindness.’

Allan Court is a 58 bed purpose-built care home that provides residential and nursing care for older people. The home also specialises in providing palliative care and care for individuals with dementia.
