North West care provider, Belong, has won the Extra Care Provider category at the prestigious LaingBuisson Independent Healthcare Awards 2014. The not-for-profit organisation that operates five care villages in the North West was recognised for the success of its Belong apartment schemes.
Every Belong community care village comprises a number of apartments for independent living, within a complex that also offers day care services, home care services and 24-hour nursing and dementia support to residents in private households. The Belong apartments offer the reassurance of around the clock support staff on hand nearby in the village. The apartments are situated in the heart of a vibrant community that gives easy access to facilities such as a hair salon, bistro, function rooms and exercise studio, which are also open to members of the public.
Judges commented on the award: “Belong have gone beyond the industry norm in their effort to integrate their villages with the local community and vice-versa.”
Belong is recognised as an international leader in dementia care. Unlike conventional care homes, the Belong village model allocates additional space for public facilities, designed to create a community that can be enjoyed by Belong apartment and household residents alongside their families and people living in the surrounding area. The proximity of apartments to the 24-hour care households also provides an option for periods of respite and a pathway for instances where a person’s care needs change.
Operations Director, Tracy Paine, said: “We are delighted to be recognised by the prestigious LaingBuisson Independent Healthcare Awards. Belong villages encompass a wide range of care options in a community setting, so that our customers can enjoy independence and privacy with dedicated staff and support available to support their needs.”
