Residents and staff at Birchwood Court Care Home in Easington have been celebrating after being awarded the ‘Best Business Award’ in the recent Easington Village Scarecrow Competition.

As it was their first time entering the contest, everyone at Birchwood Court was keen to make a winning impression. They decided to go with a ‘living room’ theme for their entry, to represent the communal area that the Birchwood Court residents so enjoy socialising in.

Three impressive scarecrows were created, each with their own outfit, and a mock living room was even constructed on the lawn at Birchwood Court for passers-by to enjoy.

Despite some tough competition, the home managed to scoop the trophy, which now occupies pride of place in Birchwood Court.

Donna Davidson, Manager at Birchwood Court, commented;

We had so much fun making the scarecrows. The residents were full of creative ideas about how we could make the display really impressive and we were all so pleased to win the trophy for best business!

“We’ll definitely be entering next year and are already planning the entry – we’re keen to hold on to this trophy!”

Birchwood Court, part of Embrace, provides residential and nursing care for older people.
