Labour is expected to pledge to increase spending on the NHS in England, in Ed Miliband’s party conference speech.
It is thought Labour could allocate at least another £1bn a year to the NHS from other tax rises it has already announced.
Alzheimer’s Society comment:Jeremy Hughes, Chief Executive of Alzheimer’s Society, said:’The existing NHS must be funded, but so must the support for people with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. They don’t get most of the support they need on the NHS, but from care they largely pay for themselves. These vulnerable people pay their taxes and then are paying a further ‘dementia tax’ for their care. A better funded NHS must support people with all diseases.’
