A Kenilworth care home is set to raise funds for a cancer charity by taking part in the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

Residents and kitchen staff at Kenilworth Manor Nursing Home in Thickthorn Orchards will be baking cakes including their popular butterfly cakes for local residents and the families and friends between 10:30am and 12pm on Friday 26 September. It will also include a raffle for guests and a ‘guess the weight of the cake’ contest.

The event aims to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support – a charity which provides specialist nurses, information and financial support to people and their families who are affected by cancer.

The charity’s coffee morning, which started in 1990, has grown into a nationwide event and encourages businesses and other groups to get together for a brew to raise money to help the 330,000 people who are diagnosed with cancer every year in the UK.

Nicola Asher, joint activities co-ordinator at Kenilworth Manor Nursing Home, said: “Macmillan Cancer Support does an amazing job helping people affected by cancer so we really wanted to play a role in raising money this year.

“Our coffee morning promises to be great fun and we’ve got lots of activities planned, not forgetting some great cakes for guests which our talented kitchen staff and residents are baking.

“We’re inviting lots of local people and hope to raises hundreds of pounds.”

Kenilworth Manor’s participation in the charity’s initiative comes almost 12 months since care staff launched its unique ‘Taste & See’ recipe book – made up of over 40 pudding and main course recipes from residents.

It sold over 130 copies last Christmas with the home’s butterfly cake recipe one of the most popular.

Kenilworth Manor is registered with the Care Quality Commission to provide accommodation with nursing care for up to 34 people.
