Thorney Croft Care Home in Stranraer, Scotland is delighted to have picked up a Scottish Green Apple Environment Award on Monday; an accolade which aims to reward the country’s greenest organisations and communities.
The awards, organised by The Green Organisation, a group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world, were presented at a glittering ceremony at Edinburgh’s Scotsman Hotel on August 11th by Miss UK Green Queen, Sophie Desbrow. While the team were notified of their win beforehand, the details of their award were kept under wraps until the night, where they picked up the Silver Award for their dedication to activities that respect our natural environments.
Led by Service Manager Louise Gibson, the team’s environmentally-friendly efforts have ranged from recycling clothing, collecting recyclables such as milk bottle tops, and donating materials such as furniture and metals to local community projects. The proceeds of these efforts have raised funds for both the home’s own activity fund, and other local charities.
Regional Manager Julie Cowen, says: “It is a wonderful achievement for the team at Thorney Croft to be recognised for their tireless dedication to environmental projects.”
“Their work has made a real difference to local good causes, and is the result of the team pulling together and thinking creatively to give back to their community.”
