Barchester care homes-care industry newsBarchester’s Harper Fields care home, a residential care setting in Warwickshire, is the focus of a new film that highlights factors that can enable older people with high support needs achieve a better quality of life.

The film promotes the findings of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s ‘A Better Life’ programme and can be viewed on Social Care TV. It is aimed at anyone involved in providing care and support to older people with complex care needs.

Launched by the Social Care Institute for Excellence (SCIE), with the support of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation (JRF), the film promotes the seven key challenges outlined in the Better Life report.

Several residents at Harper Fields were filmed and asked their opinions about how they felt about living in a care home.  It was agreed that seeing the individual first was important to everyone living at the home and taking the time to find out likes and interests was a key part of providing a happy place to live.

Residents at the home regularly enjoy a variety of activities, from listening to classical music and swimming, to playing skittles and visiting the theatre. Promoting dignity, respect and celebrating life is what Barchester homes are about. To view the short clip, please click here
