Borough Care, Stockport’s largest provider of care services for older people, Steven Normansell as its new Chairman.
Born and raised in Stockport and a product of Stockport School, as Director of Development and Property Services for a North West based housing provider, Steven oversaw the development of over 4,000 homes across Northern England for the retirement, family and single person housing markets.
Now one of Steven’s new priorities as Chair is to ensure that Borough Care is able to meet the needs of an expanding and increasingly more discerning market for care provision.
Steven said: “Our staff have always been fully committed to providing the best possible services to older people and the Board of Borough Care can be very proud of how its dedicated staff have pioneered advances in for example, the care of dementia.”
“I want us to continue the very important programme of upgrades to existing stock which helps support the delivery of high quality services and we have also recently acquired land in Offerton for a new care home. We are now looking at how we can best provide state of the art accommodation for older people in the future.”
Steven, who is married to Ann, added: “I have lived in Stockport all my life and it’s a tremendous honour to be able to give something back to the local community. As life expectancy increases, the provision of care and support for older people is becoming an important social concern and I want to ensure Borough Care remains at the forefront of service delivery. Our outstanding results in the National Care Awards and an influential Ipsos Mori poll demonstrate we have an superb track record on which we can build yet further.”
Currently Stockport’s thirteenth largest employer, with over 400 permanent staff across 11 care homes working with over 400 residents, Borough Care was formed over 21 years ago and was the first of Stockport Councils services to be transferred to a non profit based independent organization that is focused on operating for the benefit of the community.
