Focus on ‘outstanding care’ for Colten Care’s new HR Director

An expanding South Coast care home operator has appointed a new Director of Human Resources and Learning & Development.

Andrew Arkinstall joins family-owned Colten Care from FitzRoy, a national charity for adults with learning disabilities, where he has been HR Director since 2006.

He said his new focus was to “help project Colten Care as an outstanding and appealing care provider and an employer of choice”.

Andrew’s appointment is the second director-level hire in two months for Colten Care following the arrival of Elaine Farrer as Director of Operations.

Having started out in local government HR, Andrew became interested in applying his skills to help managers working in health and social care.

He joined FitzRoy as a personnel manager in 2001, holds an MBA and is a qualified member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development.

Andrew, who lives in Southampton and has two teenage sons, said: “The quality of care comes first at Colten Care and that is something I want to support with recruitment, training and reporting.  I will be meeting as many managers and staff as possible in my early weeks to help me understand how I and my team can help best.”

Colten Care Chief Executive Mark Aitchison said Andrew was joining at a “really exciting time for the business” following the recent opening of Linden House, the company’s dedicated dementia care home in Lymington.

Mark added: “We are also continuing to plan for our new home in Chichester, due to open in 2016, and so we welcome the expert HR and people development skills that Andrew brings to the table as we move forward.”
