One of the UK’s leading independent providers of live-in care, has today announced a new volunteer partnership with charity, The Silver Line. Backed by founder and President of the charity, Esther Rantzen CBE, the initiative will enable corporate partners to support older people with a regular friendship call. Experts in elderly live-in care, Consultus Care and Nursing, are one of the first volunteer partners to sign up to this initiative. They will provide expertise from their dedicated care and nursing teams by volunteering staff to work as Silver Line Friends.
The Silver Line, which launched six months ago, is the only free, confidential 24 hour helpline for older people in need of information, friendship, and advice with Silver Line Friends offering a regular friendly voice on the end of the phone. Consultus Care will not only provide staff volunteers as befrienders buthas also pledged to support The Silver Line in delivering a checking process to secure the right volunteers for this initiative.
Consultus Care at Home Manager, Celia Hoare commented: “It‘s fantastic to launch the volunteering scheme at our annual Longstanding Gold Carer and Nurse Awards Luncheon. We are so grateful for Esther Rantzen’s support for this initiative; this is a wonderful opportunity to actively contribute to the communities in which we work. I am looking forward to the opportunity to be a Silver Line Friend.
“As a provider of live-in care, we really understand the importance of building meaningful relationships in order to combat the loneliness and isolation that older people can face – we speak to those in need every day; and that’s why we have been a committed founding supporter of The Silver Line since 2012.”
Esther Rantzen commented, “We are delighted to be supported by Consultus Care and are very grateful for their contribution to The Silver Line, which allows us to help lonely and isolated older people. We welcome their volunteers who will join our community of Silver Line Friends.”
Once trained as Silver Line Friends, volunteers will be able to provide a consistent and reliable weekly telephone friendship call to older people, encouraging and enabling them to become more confident and help ease the feelings of isolation and loneliness.
