Residents at Sunrise of Virginia Water, the specialist residential and dementia care community, attended their annual Ascot Party on Tuesday. They donned their best outfits for this year’s event which was made even more special by coinciding with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.
The group of 24 residents were very kindly invited to the home of their dedicated concierge Penny Moore and her husband for a picnic and live entertainment provided by the talented duo ‘Sounds Familiar’. The amazing house is on the same route into Ascot that the Queen takes, so the seniors got on board the Sunrise Friendship Bus bright and early to pitch their seats in prime positions.
Neighbours from surrounding residences joined participants from Sunrise to socialise and enjoy the entertainment. After a leisurely picnic of finger sandwiches and donuts in the sun, the group went down towards the road with their Union Jacks at the ready. Here, they enjoyed a perfect view of the Queen and her entourage as they went on their way to the racecourse.
At the end of the day Sunrise’s Friendship Bus escorted guests back to the community after some new friendships had been formed and a great day had by all. This annual event has proven to be tremendously popular in recent times and everybody is talking about next year already.
Speaking after the event, Director of Community Relations Toby Speller, said:
“This is one of the many highlights in the Sunrise calendar, as residents and families from the local community get together to have a great day out.”
“Some of the residents recall the Queen’s coronation so it was a real treat for them to see Her Majesty.
“The residents of Sunrise Virginia Waters attend this event every year and its extremely popular. At Sunrise we are always keen to play an active role in our local community and events like the Ascot Party enable us to do so.”
