Phil Rimmer, Head Chef at leading food company apetito, has won a highly contested industry award in recognition of his work to develop the company’s range of soft and puréed foods for care home residents with chewing and swallowing difficulties.
In a year that saw a record number of nominees, Rimmer received the Chef Award at this year’s Cost Sector Catering Awards, which recognise excellence in all forms of catering, including education, stadia and the Armed Forces.
Created for residents with chewing and swallowing difficulties caused by dysphagia, apetito’s soft and puréed range has been developed to retain both the taste and appearance of a ‘normal’ meal so that they are sure to enjoy their selection with both their taste buds and their eyes, while taking in a nutrient and calorie-dense meal.
“Among the record number of 23 entries for the Cost Sector Catering Chef Award this year, Phil received a double nomination for what the judges felt was truly innovative menu development in the unsung, but hugely important area of catering for people with swallowing difficulties,” said David Foad, editor of Cost Sector Catering and head judge of the awards.
The award marks the latest accolade for Rimmer, who has also received a Craft Guild of Chefs Award for his work on the soft and puréed range.
“It’s always nice to be recognised, particularly by your peers, for what you love doing, but this is as much a team award as it is an individual one,” said Rimmer. “Credit must go to everyone at apetito for the way we have created a unique range for people with dysphagia.”
apetito Chief Executive Paul Freeston added: “We have a fantastic recent record in award nominations, winning a National Business Award in 2010 for Customer Focus, and the Queen’s Award for Enterprise in 2005 to name but a couple.
“This award recognizes the fantastic work of all our staff that have helped make apetito the world leaders in soft and puréed meal provision. We are proud to have a truly world class product, innovated by fantastic customer focus and a dedicated work force.”
Rimmer received his award on 12 April at the Hilton London Metropole.
