The newly decked fishing platform at White Lodge care home was officially opened as part of the first ever Fishing for Forces competition day. Although the weather was a washout, the fishing was superb and the ex-servicemen from Tedworth House Hospital, funded by Help For Heroes, had a great fishing experience. Several people caught some monster carp and it was agreed that the decking, with its disabled access, was a great addition to White Lodge’s lake and grounds.
Helen Maiello, Senior Regional Operations Director, and Malcolm MacDonald, Maintenance Co-ordinator, presented Fishing for Heroes with a cheque for £1,000 from Barchester’s independent Charitable Foundation. The charity will use the donation to buy fishing equipment for former soldiers to get involved and fish some more at the White Lodge’s lake.
Malcolm McDonald, said: “It has been a fantastic day and we hope to have many more like these, just with a bit more sunshine. The lads from Tedworth House have really enjoyed some chill out time in the grounds and have found the experience fun and relaxing.
White Lodge will host a fishing competition on the 4th May to raise money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation.
