The National Care Association has welcomed the Minister for Social Care’s announcement that, following consultation, the proposed adult social care excellence award scheme has now been abandoned due to wide spread opposition from within the sector.
National Care Association Chairman Nadra Ahmed OBE said, ‘We are delighted that our campaign over the past few months to highlight the weaknesses of the scheme and its timing have been noted. At the recent National Care Association Annual Conference, Dame Jo Williams alluded to the fact that the scheme had been given a universal thumbs down. Delegates welcomed this announcement.
The delivery of a quality service to the most vulnerable members of society remains the foremost priority of the National Care Association’s membership and we strongly believe that the Care Quality Commission (CQC), as the regulator, should have the task of measuring standards.’
